SEMAJ'S BIOGRAPHY

Self-described as a country boy by way of Chicago, Semaj Miller grew up on the Windy City’s storied South-side.  As a kid he wanted to be a lawyer until his father snuck him into a showing of “What’s Love Got to Do With It” thus began a life-long love affair with all things Tina and ACTING. This led to his star turn as “Teen Angel” in a high school production of Grease where he learned the literal value of falling on your face before a live audience. Since then he’s been BLESSED to travel far beyond his own imagination to work with and meet artists from across the globe. A lifetime removed from the infamous face plant, Semaj managed to pick up a couple degrees along the way- a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from Syracuse University and an Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the Professional Acting Training Program at the University of Washington, School of Drama. Success aside, both on and off stage he's still that same kid from the South-side of Chicago whose hope remains the same; that hearts can be healed through the power of story telling.

REVIEWS

Word on the Street

FAT HAM

"Semaj Miller struts in as Larry (Laertes), a soldier home on leave. But this seemingly one note Marine has hidden depths and Miller brings them out beautifully. His arc throughout the piece is a stunner."

-Jay Irwin, BroadwayWorld.com

THE ROYALE

"Jay is at once a champion at the top of his field... relegated to eternal underdog status, playing a game he can never win. Semaj Miller is a marvel navigating this range, capturing Jay's immense charisma as well as both the fire and deeply buried pain that drive him."

-Vivian Kane, KCStudio.org

DIRECT FROM DEATH ROW THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS

"A masterful work of history and theatre... Miller is priceless as the even smarmier Southern power broker General Knight."

-Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun-Times

THE ELABORATE ENTRANCE OF CHAD DEITY

"Semaj Miller... a performing understudy for the original production at Victory Gardens, is sensational as Chad Deity. Semaj makes the most of his opportunity with his unlimited power and passion for the role."

-Colin Douglas, Chicago Theatre Review
